Hip-Hop Zen

Have you ever seen meditation meet hip-hop? On Tuesday, April 19th, you will have the opportunity to experience an enlivening spiritual and musical collaboration. Zion I & The Grouch is a hip-hop band from the west coast visiting Syracuse on their “Healing of the Nation Tour." Zion I & The Grouch uses hip-hop as a vehicle to support the nation through the trials of modern times; send positive, uplifting messages to youth; and promote social activism. The band draws inspiration from meditation and shares a common vision of the future with the Zen Center.
Members of Zion I & The Grouch asked the Zen Center of Syracuse and Imagine Syracuse to partner with them in hosting their Syracuse concert at the Westcott Theater next Tuesday, and we have enthusiastically accepted. The partnership will allow the Zen Center to reach young people at the concert; we will have an information table and the opportunity to lead a short meditation at the concert. We also will receive a $3 donation from every ticket sold.

We encourage you to read the band's song lyrics on their website, or listen to their music on YouTube.  You also can buy a ticket on their website. Tickets are $12 ($16.72 with fees).  Here is a link to the poster so you can post copies wherever you go.

The Zen Center and Imagine Syracuse have been collaborating for more than a year on behalf of young people.  This event is an exciting continuation of that work and offers a chance to have a positive, lasting impact on our community and its youth.  We hope you'll support it by attending the concert and forward this e-mail to friends.
