Join us in person as our city temple New York Zendo hosts the first sesshin of the new year.

This sesshin will honor the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to combat racial inequality through nonviolent means.

Led by Hokuto Sensei, the sesshin will include zazen, morning service, Dharma talks and Dharma interviews. The ZSS Covid Protocols must be followed by in-person participants. Read more »

Sitting in the deep stillness, as snowflakes fall and temperatures drop, we can encounter our true nature. This Zoom sesshin will be led by Shinge Roshi and will include zazen, morning service, teisho, dokusan and Dharma interviews with Shinge Roshi and Chigan Roshi. Harvest Sesshin at Dai Bosatsu Zendo

This year’s Harvest Sesshin will culminate in the Jukai Ceremony in which dedicated Zen students receive the Buddhist Precepts from their teacher. “Ju” is a synonym for “kaku,” “to realize.” “Kai” means “Precepts,” but it is also a synonym for Buddha-nature. So in the most profound sense, Jukai means “to awaken to ultimate freedom.” Shinge Roshi will conduct the Precepts ceremony on the last day of this sesshin.
