Parinirvana Sesshin at NYZ

Shinge Roshi will lead this sesshin in person, with a special Parinirvana ceremony marking Shakyamuni Buddha’s entry into final Nirvana, and a commemoration ceremony for Eido Tai Shimano Roshi, who passed away Feb. 19, 2018.

The sesshin will include zazen, morning service, meals, teisho and dokusan. For those participating through Zoom, off-line time will be built into the schedule. ZSS Covid Protocols apply to in-person participants.

NYZ 54th Anniversary Sesshin

Join us in person and online to commemorate the founding of our city temple, which opened its doors on September 15, 1968. It was one of the first Rinzai Zen practice centers to be established in the United States.

It took absolute trust in Dharma, great determination and an endless vow to bring this monastery into existence. This Dai Bosatsu spirit has inspired generations of Zen students to come to DBZ, and to train diligently in transforming the mind from self-absorption to altruism. On July 4, 1976, the bicentennial of the United States, International Dai Bosatsu Zendo was formally opened. Let us sit with all our might to requite the beneficence of our founding teachers.
