ACTS Public Action Meeting: "Save the Future of Our Youth"
At least 4 volunteers are needed to attend the Alliance of Communities Transforming Syracuse (ACTS) Public Action meeting on Sunday. Hoen-ji is a member of ACTS, a faith-based group advocating for social justice issues in Syracuse. The Public Action meeting will invite current politicians and political candidates, questioning them about their commitment to the following issues:
1) Universal pre-K for all children in Syracuse
2) Putting convicted 16-18 year olds in New York State in the juvenile justice system, rather than the adult system (48 states currently do this)
3) Working with inner city residents and "Mom and Pop" stores to provide better food in safer, cleaner store environments
This meeting is important because every audience member is a voter. Last year, Mary Anne Buerkle was booed for saying that she would not support the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, or food stamps). Contact Mokuon (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you are able to join in this important opportunity to put our practice into action.
