July Movie Night

For this month movie night, we will view The Loving Story. This documentary details the lives of the high-profile interracial couple Mildred and Richard Loving, whose marriage was the subject the landmark Supreme Court case, Loving v. Virginia, which outlawed state laws targeting interracial marriage. Coupling the Lovings' history-making marriage with opinions of interracial marriage today, The Loving Story showcases the triumphs and continued obstacles of interracial love in the United States today. This is not an overtly Buddhist movie, but we have a special tie to it, as Bernard Cohen, the attorney who argued the case before the Supreme Court, is the uncle of Shinge Roshi. If there is sufficient interest we may also view some clips of Bob Dylan at the Newport Folk Festival 1963-65.
