Dear Zen Center Members and Community Friends,

I know we are all heartsick and grieving over the deaths and devastation in Japan caused by the earthquakes, tsunami, and danger from radiation. This Monday evening, March 21, is when we have our Mandala Day ceremony at the Zen Center of Syracuse, and I thought it would be a good time to bring the community together for an Interfaith Service for Japan. Dai Bosatsu Mandala Day

Dai Bosatsu Mandala Day is celebrated with a special chanting ceremony on the 21st of every month, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m., in the Carriage House Zendo. Please wear tabi or clean white socks. Chanting is followed by a convivial gathering in the Joshua Forman House with tea and sweets.

Sand Mandala

Tibetan Buddhist monks from the Gaden Shartse Monastery will create an intricate and vivid mandala (a circular sand painting) from October 7th to the 10th, from 9:30 am to 5 pm each day at the Zen Center of Syracuse’s Joshua Forman House. It is one of a series of events to mark the Zen Center’s observation of the bicentennial anniversary of the house built by Joshua Forman, founder and first president of the Village of Syracuse, at 266 West Seneca Turnpike. Dai Bosatsu Mandala Day

Dai Bosatsu Mandala Day is celebrated with a special chanting ceremony on the 21st of every month, from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., in the Carriage House Zendo. When Mandala Day falls on a Thursday, the Thursday evening service will start with one sitting from 6-6:45 followed by kinhin and then Mandala Day chanting at 7pm.
